Privacy Policy

Money Timeline ("the app") is built and operated by Nitesh, an individual developer, doing business as nitapps. This policy explains what data Money Timeline collects, why, and what choices you have. It applies to the Money Timeline app on Android and, once released, iOS.

The short version

• Your entries (what you spent, gave, or received) are stored on your device, not sent anywhere, unless you turn on optional cloud sync.
• Signing in is optional and only needed for cloud sync. The app works fully without an account.
• We use Firebase for crash reports and basic usage analytics — never for ad targeting, and we never sell your data.
• You can export everything as JSON/CSV, or delete it, at any time.

Information we collect

Entries you create. Transaction descriptions, amounts, categories, dates, and any notes you add, plus the People and Contexts (who money went to or came from, and the situations you tag transactions with) you create to organize them — whether typed, spoken, or captured through the app's other input methods. This is the core data the app exists to store.

An internal anonymous identity. Money Timeline may use Firebase's anonymous authentication internally while you're in the process of connecting a durable sign-in provider. This anonymous identity is not presented to you as an account you can sign back into, and — on its own — it never causes your transactions, People, or Contexts to sync anywhere. Nothing is uploaded to Firestore until you explicitly connect a durable account such as Google Sign-In.

Account information, if you sign in. Signing in with Google is entirely optional and only required if you want to enable cloud sync (Apple Sign-In will be offered once the iOS app is released). If you do, we receive the basic profile information (name, email address) those providers share with apps at sign-in.

Data synced to the cloud, if you enable it. With cloud sync on — which requires a durable account, never just the internal anonymous identity above — your transactions (amounts, descriptions, categories, dates/timestamps), People, Contexts, and the sync/deletion metadata needed to keep devices consistent are stored in Google Firestore under your account, so you can back them up or use the app across devices. With cloud sync off, nothing about your entries leaves your device.

Voice input. If you use voice entry, your speech is processed by your device's own operating system speech-recognition service (Android's or Apple's, depending on your platform) to convert it to text — we don't run our own speech-recognition servers. The app requests on-device recognition where the OS supports it, but that request can still fall back to the platform's own network-based recognizer depending on your device, OS version, language, and locally installed language models — we don't control this and can't guarantee purely offline processing. Money Timeline does not record or store audio of what you say; only the resulting text is kept, exactly like anything you type. We track that a voice entry happened (for example, to know the feature works) but never send the words you actually said to our analytics.

Shared text. If you share text from another app into Money Timeline, we read that shared text to help pre-fill an entry. It's treated the same as anything else you type.

Crash and usage data. We use Firebase Crashlytics and Firebase Analytics to see when the app crashes and understand broad usage patterns (for example, which features are used) so we can fix bugs and improve the app. Like any SDK, these can automatically collect some basic technical metadata (such as device model, OS version, and app version) as part of normal crash/analytics operation — we don't claim otherwise. What we do actively opt out of is advertising identifiers: on Android, Money Timeline explicitly disables Advertising ID collection, so Analytics identifies your device using its own app-scoped instance ID rather than one that could be used to track you across other apps. This data is not used to build an advertising profile of you, and we don't share it with ad networks — Money Timeline has no ads and no advertising SDK of any kind.

Where your data lives

Money Timeline stores your entries locally on your device using encrypted local storage. Sensitive values (like sync credentials) use your device's own secure storage (Keychain on iOS, Keystore on Android) rather than plain files.

If you enable cloud sync, a copy of your entries is also stored in Firestore, Google's cloud database, associated with your signed-in account. Google's infrastructure may process and store this data in data centers outside your home country, as is standard for global cloud services.

Third-party services we use

Money Timeline is built on these third-party services, each of which processes data under its own privacy policy:

• Firebase (Google) — Authentication, Firestore (optional cloud sync), Analytics, and Crashlytics.
• Google Sign-In — only if you choose to sign in. (Sign in with Apple will be offered once the iOS app is released.)
• Your device's operating system — for voice-to-text, if you use voice entry.

We do not use advertising SDKs, ad networks, or third-party data brokers.

What we don't do

• We don't run ad trackers or show ads.
• We don't sell your data to anyone, for any reason.
• We don't require a bank account, card, or credential scraping of any kind — Money Timeline never asks for banking credentials.
• We don't require an account to use the app.

Your rights and choices

• Export. You can export your data as JSON or CSV at any time, from within the app.
• Delete. You can delete individual entries, or all app data, at any time — locally, and from Firestore if you've used cloud sync.
• Turn off sync. You can disable cloud sync at any time; your local data is unaffected.
• Revoke sign-in. You can disconnect Google sign-in (or Apple, once offered on iOS) from your device or account settings at any time.

Deleting your cloud account

If you've connected a durable account, you can delete it — and the cloud-synced transactions, People, Contexts, and other account-scoped data that go with it — in two ways:

• In the app: Settings → Cloud Account → Delete Account. This deletes your Firebase Authentication account and your Firestore data, then returns the app to local-only mode.
• Without the app: visit nitapps.in/moneytimeline/delete-account and follow the instructions there. Because we don't run a full account-management backend, this request is verified and processed manually — we confirm it's really you by requiring the request to come from the same email address as your Google account — rather than instantly.

Either way, deleting your cloud account never touches data stored locally on your device. That stays until you separately delete it or uninstall/clear the app.

Data retention

Local data stays on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app. Cloud-synced data stays in Firestore until you delete it or ask us to delete your account's data. Crash and analytics data is retained by Firebase according to Firebase's own default retention periods.

Children's privacy

Money Timeline is not directed at children and is not intended for use by anyone under the age of 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

Security

We take reasonable technical measures to protect your data, including local encryption and platform secure-storage APIs. No method of storage or transmission is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security — but we don't take shortcuts with your data either.

Changes to this policy

If this policy changes in a way that matters — for example, a new third-party service is added — we'll update this page and change the "Last updated" date above. Significant changes will be noted in the app's release notes.
